I should be able to come up with a decent "vision statement" for our church's worship with no problem, right? I have another one of those church vision planning meetings on Sunday. I've been thinking all day and I've got nothing.
The one that was suggested in the meeting I missed was "Glorify God through vibrant and intentional worship." Someone sent an email around saying, "Christ or Jesus just has to be in this statement. It is what separates us from all the religions of the world and we must proclaim it boldly and not hide it as if to appear more welcoming to a secular community looking for the everpresent 'spirituality.'" (word in boldface his, not mine.) I applaud that email. I'd like to see the entire Trinity make an appearance in this statement, myself.
What is vibrant, anyway? Is a Good Friday service vibrant?
Whatever.
I'm going to see Troy tonight. I leave you with this, the best Barth quote ever. I thought Darren had the best Barth quote, but this one by Wes in this comment thread trumps it:
"About Barth...when I first read him, I hated him. But after a while of taking him in and looking deeper at who he was and what he thought, I've realized that I was the asshole, not him."
I'm looking forward to hearing what you thought of Troy -- is it supposed
to follow the Iliad at least partially, do you think?
And I apologize for thinking you were Catholic?!? I have "switched you!" Cheers!
