The theologian of the month for September is Karl Barth, because I am taking an independent study through Garrett titled "Readings in Theology: Barth and Balthasar." I'm registered and paid up (I have my official student I.D. with the horrible picture), but I don't know when we're meeting or what we'll read. The prof said I probably could not get the books at Garrett. Huh? What kind of seminary bookstore doesn't have any of the Church Dogmatics?
I'm quite excited and nervous to begin my journey back to school. Even if I decide not to go back for a Ph.D. in theology and ethics, at least I'll know more Barth. And who couldn't use more Barth in their life?
I hope you'll consider blogging some of your insights. A professor of mine
was fond of saying that in hindsight, Barth's neo-orthodoxy was a mixture
of good and bad, the neo- representing the bad and the orthodoxy
representing the good. =) I'm not sure I'd draw the line so boldly! I'm
interested in hearing your perspective.
